Data centers need cable management that supports dense installation without making maintenance difficult. A useful design starts with clear route ownership, separation requirements and room for future changes.

Separate power and data routes

Coordinate power, control and communications routes with the electrical and ICT design teams. Use the approved separation distances, crossings and pathway rules for the project rather than treating every route the same.

Plan access around racks and equipment

Keep tray runs accessible for pulling, inspection and replacement. Review rack rows, overhead obstructions, fire zones, doors and maintenance clearances before fixing the support system.

Choose ventilation and protection deliberately

Perforated or ladder tray can support airflow and visibility, while solid-bottom sections may be useful where a route needs additional protection. Consider cable type, bend radius, dust control and the facility's operating environment.

Reserve capacity for change

Data center cabling changes over time. Include spare width, organized fittings and clear labeling in the route plan. A practical fittings schedule makes additions easier to complete without disturbing active services.
